THE BRODDGöLTUR METHOD
-
LISTEN
We begin by listening to one another with curiosity, empathy, and respect. Then we politely disagree.
-
DISCUSS
Every phrase is examined from multiple artistic perspectives. Sometimes repeatedly.
-
COMMIT
Once a decision has been reached, the quartet performs with unity and conviction. Until someone suggests another bowing.
WHAT MAKES BRODDGöLTUR DIFFERENT
-
MUSICAL
We believe great chamber music begins with careful score study, attentive listening, and a shared artistic vision.
It also helps if at least one member remembers to bring a pencil.
-
SCIENTIFIC
Our ensemble contains all four DISC personality types, creating a living laboratory for interpersonal dynamics.
Current findings suggest the results should be impossible.
-
SUSTAINABLE
Powered by friendship, mutual respect, and an alarming quantity of wasabi peas.
No external funding has been required to date.
AFTER A BRODDIE WEEKEND
Equal parts artistically fulfilled, emotionally exhausted, and already looking forward to the next one.
OUR REHEARSALS WILL BE
PREPARED
Everyone arrives having studied their part thoroughly and thoughtfully. This statement reflects our aspirations.
COLLABORATIVE
Every musical decision is carefully discussed until consensus is reached. Or until rehearsal ends.
TRANSFORMATIVE
Participants routinely leave with deeper artistic insight, stronger friendships, and several new inside jokes.
FAQs
IS BRODDGöLTUR CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW AUDIENCE MEMBERS?
Yes. While our core audience remains comprised of stuffed animals, confused neighbors, and close friends who made the mistake of expressing interest once, we are always excited to welcome new listeners. No prior chamber music experience is required. Emotional preparedness is recommended.
HOW OFTEN DOES THE QUARTET REHEARSE?
Our rehearsal schedule follows a highly sophisticated model based on geography, work obligations, airline pricing, and whether someone remembered to book the rehearsal space. When all four members are in the same city, rehearsals occur with alarming efficiency.
WHAT REPERTOIRE DOES BRODDGöLTUR SPECIALIZE IN?
Broddgöltur specializes in repertoire that rewards careful listening, thoughtful interpretation, and extensive discussions about fingerings that ultimately remain unchanged. We are particularly drawn to works that inspire equal amounts of artistic growth and mild interpersonal conflict.
HOW DID THE QUARTET GET ITS NAME?
Several explanations have been proposed. None have survived peer review.
HAVE THE MEMBERS ALWAYS BEEN THIS GOOD?
No. Some of us had to practice.
WHAT IS THE QUARTET'S GREATEST STRENGTH?
The quartet's greatest strength is its ability to combine all four DISC personality types into a single functioning ensemble. Current research suggests this should not be possible. Yet here we are.
WHO IS THE LEADER OF THE QUARTET?
Like all successful chamber ensembles, leadership responsibilities are shared equally. Except when Melissa is right.
DOES THE QUARTET HAVE ANY RIVALRIES?
Officially, no. Unofficially, certain members continue to harbor strong opinions regarding rhythm, tempos, bowings, rehearsal snacks, and the concept of being on time.
HAS THE QUARTET RELEASED ANY RECORDINGS?
Yes. Our debut album, Incriminating Evidence LP, has received praise from listeners worldwide. Most notably: "Wait, this sounds familiar. Have we played this before?"
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A TYPICAL REHEARSAL?
A typical rehearsal begins with music. It eventually becomes a group therapy session. Then somehow returns to music.
