Hi, we are the Broddies.

Established in 2013, the Broddgöltur quartet has rapidly blossomed to become one of today's existing quartets on the international classical music scene. What began as a humble outlet for sight-reading chamber repertoire has evolved into a haven of self-discovery that has fostered a trademark tone, made possible only by their years of consummate friendship, and wasabi peas.

The musicians of the Broddgöltur Quartet have achieved immense success in captivating a global audience of various stuffed animals and perplexed next-door neighbors to wide acclaim. Beyond their technical prowess, Broddgöltur Quartet performances are marked by a special chemistry. A glance behind the glimmer in their eyes reveals all four DISC personality types, a living testament to the idea that opposites not only attract but also create harmony that transcends conventional boundaries... intentional or not. Such moments of self-discovery are abundant in Broddie gatherings.

The Broddgöltur Quartet recently unveiled their debut album, "Incriminating Evidence LP." This release invites classical music aficionados to experience pioneering interpretations of their carefully curated signature repertoire, among which the quartet knows how to play nothing. Indeed, this album promises a listening experience like no other, with each track evoking a sense of both familiarity and novelty. As one member glowingly reviewed, "Wait, this sounds familiar. Have we played this before?”

"Transformative... I hope."

Ari

Ari was recognized as a musical prodigy early in life, winning the prestigious Hilary Hahn Placental Music Competition at only 16 weeks gestation, a prize that had eluded fetuses below 22 weeks up to that point.

As a toddler, he attended the renowned Szeryng preschool, but dropped out after his first year to audition for the Berlin Philharmonic. He was awarded the chair of associate concertmaster, a slight that motivates him to this day. To reflect on his failures, he retreated to New Mexico to explore his backup career as a plasma physicist. There, LANL immediately recognized Ari's gift for befriending plasmas, and their atomic clock commission enlisted his help in calibrating their timepieces with his impeccable tempo.

When asked about his work ethic, he describes it as isolating because he's constantly surrounded by only two types of people: rushers and draggers. Still, Ari practices 19 hours a day in preparation for the fateful day he will sit as first violinist at the pinnacle of musical achievement with the Broddgöltur Quartet.

Steph

Steph generally gravitates toward supportive roles in her life, making her a quintessential second violinist for the Broddgöltur Quartet.

Unfortunately, Steph meets diagnostic criteria for Melissa-induced Cardiomyopathy (MIC), a disease characterized by episodes of chest pain, shortness of breath, and subjective fevers that flare during "Melissa Moments". Long-term effects are not well known, but I think we all agree—frankly—it's a miracle Steph is even alive at this point. Intent on finding a cure, Steph trekked her tortured soul to Michigan for answers. There, she devised various strategies to treat MIC, only to discover that each one crumbled when tested during Broddgöltur gatherings. On the brink of surrender, she arrived in New Haven seeking a fresh perspective by switching her focus to the lungs to delineate non-cardiac etiologies of this fatal disease.

Clara

Hailed by the New York Times as "incomparably mischievous" while simultaneously "producing a generous tone that envelops the listener like a big hug," Clara was born into a family of artists and musicians.

Her overflowing musical creativity could not be contained on the violin, and she quickly upgraded to the viola. Known for her probing interpretations of the Classical and Romantic repertoire, she once brought conductor Karajan to tears by playing a passage from Schumann's beloved piano quartet entirely in second position. Clara's impressive blastissimo dynamic range on the viola is only matched by her virtuosity, allowing her to pioneer a variety of extended techniques, including playing the viola in German. In her spare time, Clara enjoys hiking, reading, and researching and teaching modern European history. Fluent in multiple languages, she hopes to one day learn the alto clef.

Melissa

She can play a violin scale on the cello. Her pages turn themselves. Horses are on a waitlist to donate hair to her bow. Cello wolves whimper in her presence. Fugue movements are afraid of her. Artificial harmonics instantly become real on her cello.

She once played a sonata so beautifully, it brought a tear to Bach's eye. And he's been dead for over 200 years. Her pitch isn't just perfect, it's perfection. She has played the wrong note only twice in the history of Broddgöltur: the first time was because she wanted to seem more down to earth; the second time was because the score was wrong. Deutsche Grammophon records with her label. Underwear occasionally throws women at her. Although Melissa's greatest weakness is the lack of cello solos in Mozart quartets, everything becomes a cello solo when she plays. She has been pulling on our Larsen heartstrings since 1990. She is the most interesting cellist in the world.
